Here is my reasoning...If you really understand what you are looking at, thousands of galaxies in the space of a grain of sand, how can you believe in a god that was created centuries ago by ignorant desert tribes, that actually pays attention to you and your life and your prayers?  As a human, you are capable of much greater depth and understanding. You can be ethical, compassionate, responsible, productive and live a good life without fear of cosmic retribution or the need for redemption that comes with god belief.
